Classifications of commodities are done as per their origin or characteristic features. From trade and commerce point of view, commodities can be broadly classified into the following categories:

  • Precious Metals: Gold, Silver, Platinum. Etc.
  • Base Metals: Nickel, Aluminum, Copper, Lead, Zinc etc.
  • Agricultural Commodities: Wheat, Corn, Cotton, Oilseeds, etc.
  • Energy: Crude Oil, Natural Gas, Gasoline etc.

“Repository” means a company that has received a Certificate of Registration under the guidelines issued by Warehousing Development and Regulatory Authority (WDRA) for providing the electronic facility for holding and/ or transacting commodity assets. To avail the services offered by a Repository, the depositor/ client must open a demat account with a Repository Participant (RP) registered/ empaneled by CCRL.

CDSL Commodity Repository Limited (CCRL) is a Repository promoted by CDSL, MCX and BSE. CCRL has received Certificate of Registration on 26th September 2017. CCRL is headquartered at Mumbai.

Warehousing Development and Regulatory Authority (WDRA) is a regulatory body set up by the Government of India for the development and regulation of Repositories, Warehouses, Negotiability of warehouse receipts, promote orderly growth of the warehousing business and to create a well-developed ecosystem. WDRA is based at New Delhi.

A client can open account with any Repository Participant registered/ empaneled by CCRL of his/ her/ their choice by filling up the account opening form and submitting the required Know Your Customer (KYC) documents.

eNNWR stands for ‘Electronic Non-Negotiable Warehouse Receipt’ & eNWR stands for ‘Electronic Negotiable Warehouse Receipt’.

Issuance of eNWRs (or eNNWRs) by Repositories is a highly regulated activity which protects customers from multiple risks associated with traditional physical warehouse receipts like, fraudulent issuance of warehouse receipts without receipt of goods, or over-statement of value or quality of goods, fraudulent issuance of duplicate warehouse receipts, loss, mutilation, tampering or fudging of information in warehouse receipts etc.

User can log-in on https://www.cdslcrl.co.in/ After first time login, user will be directed to a change password screen. On that screen, go to user profile and then click change password. All users are advised to change their password after first log-in.

Yes, new password can be generated. Go to forget password tab from the login screen and enter the user ID and user email ID for which new password is to be generated. New password link will be sent to the registered email ID. User has to click on the link and then set new password.

Reports detailing transactions viz. deposit, withdrawal, ownership transfer, pledge, transaction statement and holdings are available in CCRL repository.

Client can avail CCRL helpdesk services by mailing their details on ccrlhelpdesk@cdslindia.com. Clients are advised to provide their name and contact details in the mail alongwith a subject line stating the issue / grievance.

WDRA has notified list of commodities on WDRA website https://wdra.gov.in/web/wdra/commodities that can be deposited in WDRA respective registered warehouse.

As per the WRDA Act 2007, the warehouseman is responsible for maintenance of quality and quantity of the physical commodity deposited by clients at warehouse.

There is no limit for the quantity of goods deposited in a single eNNWR & eNWR.

Yes, eNWR can be delivered on Exchange platform for clearing and settlement, subject to a) the commodity for which eNWR is generated is listed on Exchange b) the warehouse generating the eNWR is accredited by the Exchange/ Clearing Corportion.

Yes, using CCRL repository, eNWR can be transferred from one holder to another holder, subject to both holders/ clients having active account on CCRL Repository.

On physical deposit of goods at the warehouse, eNNWR will be generated and notification sent immediately to the depositor/ client’s registered email id and mobile number.

A Depositor/ Client can get unencumbered (free balance) goods held by him/ her/ they pledged with a Financial Institutions (FIs) to avail loan. Such FIs should have an account in CCRL Repository. Final confirmation about Pledge creation is given by Pledgee in the CCRL system before disbursement of loan.

Individuals and non-individual clients holding commodity in the repository system can avail this facility. Thus, anyone who owns commodities in the Repository system can avail the pledge benefits.

Any bank or Financial Institution providing loan against Electronic Warehouse Receipts and are in Warehouse receipt finance business can be empaneled with CCRL as a Pledgee.

The list of CCRL empaneled Pledgee is available on CCRL website www.ccrl.co.in.

No, each commodity deposited in WDRA registered warehouse gets unique eNWR no, which once pledged, remains in locked condition till the Pledgee opts to release it back to free balance of the borrowing client.
